Windows 7 – Update

Yesterday I installed windows 7 on my Sony laptop…the upgrade from Vista took over 3 hours and was not pleasant. I then install ed my virus protection package and am having to do updates. Why was I so gun ho to install this? I dont know as I wish I would have waited. I have three more systems at home that I want to install it on. A Dell laptop that my son is using for school…probably will wait until first of the year to make sure all the bugs are out and all the drivers are available by the third parties. My wife’s desk top that is running XP will get updated probably around mid November after a few weeks of running it on my other laptop. Finally, i have a demo version on my apple running virtual pc…so I need to upgrade that this week. Stay tuned for the next update….

Verizon vs Iphone

One thing I have not decided on is my cell phone…I have my Blackberry Curve. Surfing the internet is so slow. I am on Verizon and my friends that I have give me their opinion and about half say go get the iPhone. The other half say stay withVerizon, as it has the best network for coverage. What should I do? Decisions Decisions…I have stayed with Verizon for a quite a while and hoping that Verizon would get the iPhone but I am finally getting tired of the poor choice in handhelds. Also my coverage at home for some reason has changed and I now do not get the same coverage as I once did. I lose calls all the time now, so I say to that if I am dropping calls, poor internet service via BB, and costing me more than ATT, why not switch. My contract ends in April and my son’s in June/July so I will be waiting to see what phones are available and seeing if Verizon will get the iPhone ( not liking with Google new alliance) but I do have time to keep dreaming and keep checking the websites and new about all of this. I know Verizon, Sprint and T-Moble are suppose to get some new cool phones in the first part of 2010, I just I wish I knew someone on the inside that might give me some input. Also, I heard there will again be a new iPhone in July, so I guess I will wait. Richard’s contract will end in July and I will wait and do something then. Just when the new iPhone come out!

I rambled on about three topic not staying too focused but would love to get feedback about my postings as I am very new to this. So if anyone has comments please let me know.

Apple’s New Mouse

After I finish with the Windows 7 upgrades, I want to check out the new Apple Mouse. All the reports I have read is that it is a good mouse for laptops and so I am thinking maybe I will hook up and buy one. I will go this week to the Apple Store and check it out! Am I a techno junky? Needing to have the latest and greatest.

Yesterday I was given a copy of Windows 7 from a friend, and so I tried to upgrade my laptop. If I can summarize the process in one work frustrating. Microsoft does not make anything easy. I tried to do the upgrade version from the disk and first thing I found out was that the installation will not let you install if you have anti-virus’ software installed. That sucks because I had to removed the anti-virus. Since I had copies of it I was not too upset but still why? you should only have to shut it down or disable it. NOOO, i had to remove it from the system. I am using Kaspersky! After removing Kaspersky, I tried to install the disk and it told me that I may not work with several programs on my system…i.e. cannon printer software etc…again arggg!!! Finally, after all that I was well into the installation and again it failed! This time the was an error that came back and stated that the disk could not find a certain file. Dummy me, I did not write the down name of the file. I will probably see my friend on Monday and see if we can burn a new copy. Then we will see what happens. I have been running an eval copy of my MAC via virtual pc and I like it better than Vista. So why change we I have three laptops, one my son has it runs Vista on a Dell and he constantly has internet connection issue and has to roll back to previous installations. Not good and so I think maybe a less intensive resource hog like Vista might be better operating system. He is not very techie savvy so installing something other than MS probably is not an option. My wife’s laptop is just slow as molasses and the Ginny pig and so I want to try it out on hers first. I hate Vista it has been a pain in my side since it came out. finally I have a Desktop and it is running XP. There is something wrong with box as it loads program at a snail pace again, I have 4 gig memory ram, 1.1 GHZ processor so I do not believe it is the machine. I have reinstall XP a couple of time and so I am thinking maybe it will be better to just upgrade to WINDOWS 7. Start fresh. However I also this feeling that states that says if it isnt broken why mess with it. We will see…stay tuned for more posting of this ongoing adventure into Microsoft’s new OS.
